Has anyone ever read "My Sister's Keeper?" I recommend it. . It is about a girl who needs a new kidney, and the parents of this girl have a baby solely for this purpose. When the girl who was born solely for the purpose of kidney donation turns Thirteen-years-old, she sues her parents for having to onate a kidney.

Yes, I read that book and found it quite disturbing to think that parents would have a child just for the purpose of saving that older child's life. They seemed to have no regard for the younger sister. It was a good read in spite of its disturbing qualities.

I was not expecting the ending (the death of the younger sister as a result of a car accident.)How about you?

Can you post the author of this book? Even though Cory gave away the ending to it, I still want to read it. Sounds like a good book. Is it availbable through NLS, Bookshare, or how do you get it?

Post 9 by CrazyMusician (If I don't post to your topic, it's cuz I don't give a rip about it!) on Tuesday, 10-Apr-2007 12:14:50

Jodi Picoult wrote the book.
I didn't like the ending that much, found it kind of clicheed, but I still would recommend the book. Most of her books are very good

I liked it, but as CM said, the ending was too cliche. It was almost like she didn't know how to dend the book, so she just through that curveball in there. 2 paragraphs before the ending is revealed, I was thinking, oh please, don't end the book this way. that's sooo retarted! And then she did. Unfortunatley, the ending sort of spoils the hard work she put in to it.

Oh, and I almost forgot. It's availabe through bookshare and I think also from NLS.

I love that book! The girl was so brave to sue her parents, and it turned out her sister wanted her to as well. The ending was a shock, and it made me very sad for hours. One of my favorites too.

I reread the book after listening to an interview with the author, and I see how the ending was the only plausible one that could've worked out. I do find it kinda cliched, but I see more why she ended the book as she did

Post 15 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Wednesday, 06-Jun-2007 16:21:16

she could have ended it different, but everyone would be sad at kate's death and would have hated it even more. As for the parrents I see what they did, but only if they wanted Anna as well for a child not just as a savior for her sister. It should have stopped after the first use, but any parrent will love one child to the point that they will sacrifice someone else for this child.

I loved the way it was written. With each character having their own narrative style. She did a hell of a job on that book.

I read that book, and I thought it was a great book. I love Jodi Picoult's way of telling stories. I've read a few other books by her, and would like to recomend them. One book is called Plain Truth. It's about this amish girl Katie who is suspected of killing her new born baby. Katie claims to never have had the baby, and it becomes a court case. Another book is called the tenth circle. Trixie is a 14 year old, who has a boyfriend. After being dumped, she goes into a depression. One night she goes to a party, and is raped. It goes on from there. It's also very well written, and told from different points of view. The last one I want to recomend is called 19 minutes. It's about a school shooting, and how the town reacts. It's a wonderful book, and you should definitely read it. I'm sorry about the bad reviews, but maybe others who have read these books can give better ones.

Sounds like great books. I know issues like that. Sounds pretty intense. I'll try it.

Did anyone see the movie version of My sister's Keeper? If you've read the book and seen the movie, which do you prefer and why?

Post 21 by Miss M (move over school!) on Wednesday, 08-Sep-2010 18:56:23

Both of them are bad.

The author writes everyone's monologues in the same voice with no variation or individuality at all - the father's thoughts are exactly like the youngest daughter's, and so on.

The movie's ending kind of diluted the point.

I always think books are better than movies. And for anyone interested you can get the book through nls I got it on the bard site. Also the ending of the book made me cry. I was totally not expecting it to end that way. Also thanks for reccomending the other books by her. I'll ahve to check them out.

My sister's keeper is great! I read it when I was a teenager and if I had the time I would certainly read it a second time! At the time I hated the ending-its funny how you just kind of assume the book is going to end one way and it completely shocks you when it doesn't! I recently watched the film and was so disappointed! thought the characters were really unconvincing and the plot was much fluffier and the characters just seemed unconvincing as well. I watched it till the end in anticipation for the inevitable big twist and when it didn't happen I just thought what a waste of time! but I guess it might not have been so marketable if they had stuck to the book! so final word-stick to the book and avoid the film!
